Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes
Next-generation oscilloscopes feature the industry’s first oscilloscope user interface designed specifically for touch operation. The same intuitive gestures used on your capacitive phone or tablet apply directly to the MDO 3, MSO 4B, 5B, and 6B displays. The large 39.6 cm (15.6-inch) screens of the MSO 5B and 6B with Full HD 1920 × 1080 resolution allow viewing multiple signals simultaneously, providing a comprehensive overview of your measurements. Even the compact MDO 3 and MSO 4B series offer the largest displays in their class, 29.5 cm (11.6-inch) and 33.8 cm (13.3-inch) respectively, also with Full HD resolution.
The MDO 3 series provides, in addition to its analog channels, 16 digital channels via a dedicated logic probe P6316 for mixed-signal analysis, included in the SUP3-MSO option. The MSO 4B, 5B, and 6B series enable detection of more signals, offering models that exceed the 4-channel limit with up to 8 analog input channels. Thanks to the MSO series’ FlexChannel® inputs, each analog channel can be converted into 8 digital channels. Simply connect an optional TLP058 logic probe to any input, expanding a 6-channel model by up to 48 digital channels and an 8-channel model by up to 64 digital channels.
See signal details that were previously invisible. MSOs of the 4B, 5B, and 6B series feature a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), providing 16 times higher vertical resolution than conventional 8-bit oscilloscopes. A high-resolution mode further increases vertical resolution with intelligent filtering to limit noise. The High-Res mode always provides at least 12 bits and can extend up to 16 bits, allowing observation and measurement of small signal details even alongside large signals.
Conventional oscilloscope FFTs are controlled by the same acquisition system that provides the analog time-domain view, making it practically impossible to optimize both views simultaneously. Spectrum View is different. It allows independent adjustment of time- and frequency-domain views by leveraging the patented technology behind each FlexChannel input. A spectrum view can be enabled for each analog channel, enabling multi-channel mixed-domain analysis. This feature is available on MSO 4B, 5B, and 6B models. With the SUP4-SV-BW-1 (MSO 4B), SUP5-SV-BW-1 (MSO 5B), or SUP6-SV-BW-1 (MSO 6B) option, the acquisition bandwidth of the spectrum view can be increased up to 2 GHz. Intuitive spectrum analyzer controls such as center frequency, span, and resolution bandwidth (RBW) simplify setup, and the RF vs. time analysis and trigger option SUP4-SV-RFVT (MSO 4B), SUP5-SV-RFVT (MSO 5B), or SUP6-SV-RFVT (MSO 6B) makes capturing anomalies straightforward.
Unlike most oscilloscopes offering FFT-based “spectrum analysis,” the MDO 3 features a true built-in spectrum analyzer. The MDO 3 provides a hardware-based spectrum analyzer with a frequency range from 9 kHz to 1 GHz as standard. The 3-SA3 option extends the frequency range up to 3 GHz.
MDO 3, MSO 4B, 5B, and 6B instruments receive free upgrades with each firmware release, adding new functions and options to your oscilloscope. For example, annotations can now be added to spectrum displays, and cursor measurements can be performed simultaneously on all channels. Many other enhancements are included, providing ongoing value with every device.
MSO 2 series oscilloscopes go wherever you do. With a compact form factor of approximately 40 mm depth and VESA mounting/interface, these models are ideal for flexible use. Yet they are fully equipped with features that simplify daily debugging and testing tasks.
