Design & Operation.

Touchscreen & Front Panel.

Featuring a capacitive touchscreen and an extremely intuitive user interface specifically designed for touch control, the MSO 2 joins the family of Tektronix next-generation award-winning oscilloscopes. Users can, for example, adjust alignment or vertical and horizontal zoom directly on the touchscreen. Alternatively, scale can be adjusted, result bars and menus can be displayed with a swipe, and much more.

The clear front panel also provides essential buttons and knobs with color-coded LED ring lights for rapid access to the most frequently used instrument settings. The MSO 2 incorporates robust membrane switch technology, making it suitable for harsh environments. The surface is easy to wipe clean, and with a depth of only approximately 1.5 inches, the instrument remains extremely compact.

Analysis & Usability.

While the MSO 2 naturally supports mouse and keyboard operation, it is primarily designed for touch use. With a single tap, users can access device configuration or waveform management. The devices also feature a completely new function, the stack mode. Each waveform is assigned its own layer (additional grid), which can represent the entire ADC range. Overlapping waveforms are no longer an issue, ensuring maximum visibility and measurement accuracy.
A wide range of standard analysis tools enables comprehensive evaluations, including waveform- and screen-based cursors with user-selectable readout positions, 36 automated measurements with measurement statistics and gating, the ability to add unlimited measurements, navigate from one event to the next, and immediately display minimum or maximum results.
Basic and advanced waveform mathematics, including editing arbitrary equations, are fully supported, as well as FFT analyses with size and phase display options, multiple window types, gating, and unit configurations. Additionally, an extensive set of advanced triggers is available.

Applications.

The development of integrated systems has never been faster, more complex, or more connected. Measurement technology must keep pace. Engineers need tools that can quickly and accurately validate, test, and design.

  • Power supply sequencing and measurement
  • Triggering and analysis of serial protocols for I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, CAN, CAN FD, CAN XL, LIN and SENT
  • Characterization of devices
  • Capture and analysis of control signals with 16 digital channels
The MSO 2 was designed with new users and hybrid learning environments in mind, making it the perfect instrument for training the next generation of engineers.

  • Menus with graphical representations and explanatory text for a quick overview of functions
  • Integrated help system for independent learning
  • Possibility to independently deactivate AutoSet, cursor and measurements
The modern automotive industry is fast-paced and engineers or technicians need the right oscilloscope to identify problems quickly and easily. The MSO Series 2 combines lab-level performance in a portable oscilloscope to enable new user experiences and make field troubleshooting accessible, accurate and repeatable.

  • In-vehicle or on-site testing with optional battery pack
  • Develop / debug electronic control units (ECUs)
  • Vehicle sensor testing and troubleshooting
  • Bus troubleshooting and debugging in the SENT sensor, Controller Area Network (CAN) or Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
Optimize your manufacturing process by moving seamlessly from development to production testing with the unmatched versatility of the MSO2.

  • Limit and mask testing based on a golden reference signal
  • PCB rework and troubleshooting
  • Analysis of faults
  • Automated tests

Software Options & Extensions.

This software option provides a set of reliable tools for working with the most commonly used serial buses in embedded systems: I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, CAN-FD, SENT, serial LIN trigger and analysis. The protocol decoding and triggering capability is invaluable for tracking the flow of activity through a system by observing traffic on one or more serial buses.
This software option includes a 50 MHz arbitrary function generator (AFG), frequency response analysis (Bode diagram) and 4-bit digital pattern generator (DPG).
The AFG, which is suitable for simulating sensor signals in a design or for adding noise to signals when performing limit tests. The AFG output is assigned multiple times with the AUX output signal.
Analyze the frequency response of a system with the Bode plot function. The input voltage sweeps over the user-defined range using the internal AFG or a supported external AFG.
The 4-bit digital pattern generator with a recording length of 4k points per bit is suitable for generating 4 digital signals at predefined voltage levels.

This software option is a bundle/package of 2-SERIAL and 2-SOURCE. Save money when you buy the bundle compared to the options available separately.
With this option, your oscilloscope has an additional mixed signal function with 16 digital channels including the P6316 logic probe and accessories. The accessories included with the probe enable direct connection to 8x2 square pin plugs. For additional flexibility, the flexible test leads and clips included in the scope of delivery can be used for attachment to surface-mounted devices or measuring points.
The MSO2 series also supports the use of optional battery packs for a whole new level of flexibility for your measurements on site or in areas without available AC power.

The battery pack has two slots and supports hot-swapping, i.e. swapping batteries during operation to extend battery life. The batteries charge when your MSO2 is connected to the mains. Alternatively, it is possible to charge the batteries using an external charger.
