Description

J2140A | Attenuator, DC - 50 MHz, 10, 20 and 40 dB, 50 ohms

In connection with a network analyzer z. B. the attenuator J2140A essentially used for 2 applications. One of these applications is the damping of the oscillator signal. Even if it seems strange, a common mistake is that the oscillator signal is too large and overdrives the input mixer. Most analyzers therefore have the option of reducing the output amplitude, although this reduction is still too little for precise small signal measurements. The correct oscillator amplitude should be just above the noise level.

The second application for using an attenuator is to increase the dynamic range of the device. In some cases such as B. the measurement of the very high gain (open loop) of an operational amplifier (100 dB and more is not unusual) an attenuation is necessary, which increases the measuring range of the measuring device.
