How dataTec takes responsibility for sustainability.
In everyday life. Small steps, big impact.
At dataTec, we encounter environmental protection every day. Consciously or unconsciously. For example, there is always access to free water from the water dispenser. Completely without disposable bottles. In addition, environmentally friendly fabric towel dispensers hang in all washrooms. Every evening, our printers, screens and other devices are completely switched off to save electricity. And there are solar panels on our roof that produce green electricity every day. Because every step counts.
World Clean-up Day. Tackling the rubbish together.
You can learn responsibility from an early age. That's why we organise the Clean-up Day in September not only for our employees, but for the whole family. With a waste-themed game, colouring pictures, a waste quiz and a memory game, we learn together what we need to know about waste. And then? It's time to get into your rain gear and get out into nature! Armed with waistcoats and litter pickers, the team heads to the clean-up operation around the dataTec site in Reutlingen. For the sake of the environment. And for the sake of our local area.
When shipping is part of the daily business.
We always ensure our shipping is carbon-neutral, which is certified by GLS and the GoGreen seal from Deutsche Post. All boxes and packaging materials sent to us are also reused for the next shipment. For our printed media we use FSC-certified paper, which guarantees sustainable forest management. The printing of these media is also verifiably carbon-neutral. In this way, we make our contribution to environmental protection every day and with every shipment.
The long-lasting exhibition stand.
Did you know that approximately 80% of a conventional trade fair stand is simply disposed of after the event? dataTec has now opted for a sustainable trade fair concept. The stand consists of a modular aluminium construction. This will be dismantled after the fair and reused for the next one. The concept includes a large LED wall, which means that no more printed surfaces are produced. Unfortunately, it is not (yet) possible to eliminate waste completely. But at the end of the fair, only about 10% to 20% of the stand needs to be disposed of – the rest can be reused. A great success!
Black on white: the German Sustainability Code.
A big step for us is the German Sustainability Code , which we published for the first time in autumn 2023. This report summarises all the actions we take in relation to sustainability. It shows us how far we have already come, but also how far we still have to go. This code is voluntary and makes clear that we take our responsibility seriously. For us, for our customers, for society.
Increasing your knowledge – while keeping it sustainable.
How sustainable are our events and seminars? We review this regularly and implement new measures. For example, we source our catering regionally, organise digital seminars and offer our academy guests charging points for electric cars in Reutlingen. In 2023 our M-Day will take place at the Umwelt Arena in Switzerland. With the Klima restaurant, a PV system, a sustainability training centre and carbon-neutral operations, this is probably the most environmentally friendly event location in the world.
dataTec is climate-ready.
Sometimes you need a little help to get started. That is why the KlimaFIT project, a funding program of the state of Baden-Württemberg, enables companies to make a structured start on the topic of climate protection. As part of the project, dataTec successfully drew up a greenhouse gas balance sheet, set up its own organizational structure for climate protection and defined climate protection guidelines and targets. The program also facilitated a valuable exchange with other companies in the region. In February 2024, dataTec was recognized as "climate fit" following its successful completion.
