Efficient testing of residual capacity with a bidirectional DC laboratory power supply.

After their use in electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries can be reused for other purposes. These so-called second-life batteries are suitable, for example, as energy storage for solar power and wind energy or for emergency power supplies. To check the remaining capacity, the battery is fully charged using a programmable bidirectional power supply such as the PSB10000 series and then discharged in a controlled manner using the same device.

The capacity (SOC) and the state of health (SOH) are determined during this process. The excess energy during the discharge process can be fed back into the power grid with an efficiency of up to 96%.

After the second-life life cycle, old lithium-ion batteries are finally recycled. The aim is to recover as many raw materials as possible for new batteries. Regenerative electronic loads from EA, such as the ELR10000 series, offer a highly efficient solution for fully discharging the batteries.

On the one hand, this enables optimum use of the stored residual energy. On the other hand, it avoids the potential risk of dangerous contact voltage or fire. The complete discharge of battery storage systems makes recycling a safe process.

An electronic load that feeds energy back into the grid converts the energy extracted from the connected battery into AC voltage with an efficiency of up to 96% and feeds it back into the local power grid. The purchase price of the electronic load is amortized by the reduced electricity costs.

The user-friendly interface of the EA Power Control software allows you to conveniently control EA DC power supplies and electronic loads remotely using your Windows PC. With the optional Multi Control, you can manage the measurement parameters of up to 20 devices simultaneously. The user software supports an efficient test procedure, particularly for mass tests and discharges.

EA Power Control also enables the simulation of photovoltaic arrays and fuel cells. Automated updates and remote maintenance support you in the application and ensure that your laboratory equipment is up to date.
