The extended and improved DC power supplies and loads of the 10000 series comprise over 180 models with an increased power range from 600 W to 30 kW. The devices also offer output voltages from 10 V to 2,000 V and output currents up to 1,000 A, a significant increase over the previous 9000 series performance.

“Autoranging” enables full source/sink power over a wider operating range. This allows more DUTs to be tested with a single power supply. The power supply automatically generates a higher output voltage in source mode when a lower current is required and a higher output current for lower voltages.
In load mode, it operates at a higher input voltage when a lower load current is required and generates a higher load current with a correspondingly lower system voltage. EA's autoranging function achieves full load power down to 33% of the rated input voltage.
The built-in function generator provides predefined waveforms, for example a sine, triangle, rectangle or trapezoidal curve, as well as freely configurable arbitrary functions. A ramp function and UI/IU tables are also available.
In addition, the bidirectional sources have various simulation functions for battery simulation (lithium, lead), for photovoltaic arrays and for fuel cells (FC). A battery discharge profile and a PV MPP tracking simulation for load operation are also available as standard.
The ELR and PSB series from EA work in load operation to feed energy back into the grid. They convert the excess DC voltage emitted by the device under test into AC voltage with an efficiency of over 96 % and feed this back into the local power grid.
The purchase price is amortized by the reduction in electricity costs. In addition, the power supply units generate hardly any waste heat and are therefore an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution. The illustration uses an application to show how the “test object” converts the energy drawn from the grid into direct current and supplies it to the IO device. The PSB 10000 bidirectional power supply unit converts this energy into alternating current and feeds it back into the grid.
