Especially when using lead-free solders, increased oxide formation can occur on the surface of the soldering tip. These oxides must be specifically removed, as they very quickly lead to a black, unwettable separating layer. A special spiral wool is used to clean the soldering tip in the Weller WDC Dry Cleaner. The fine cleaning is then carried out by stripping or turning the soldering tip in the spiral wool. After the fine cleaning, there is still a thin residual solder layer, which prevents immediate oxidation of the soldering tip.
