The Picotest P2104A probe is a 50 ohm, 1-port transmission-line "browser" probe. This precision probe supports a wide range of measurements using the 1-port reflection methodology, including impedance, ripple, noise, TDT/TDR, PCB power rail, VRM (voltage regulator module), clock jitter, and non-invasive stability (NISM). The P2104A has significant advantages over active probes and other types of passive probes. The probe is compatible with all 50 ohm, instruments, including vector network analyzers (VNA), oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
The P2104A is called a "browser" probe because it can be easily and quickly moved from point to point/rail to rail by repositioning the measurement points. The probe achieves very low tip inductance to alleviate space constraints on a dense PCB while eliminating the need to add additional SMA connectors or other test points required for impedance measurements. It is particularly useful when there are multiple rails to evaluate and no time or PCB iterations are available to provide for each individual test point implementation. Repeated measurements are simplified because connection is made simply by touching the tip to the existing output capacitor pads.
The P2104A is available in one of four fixed pin pitches (50, 60, 70, or 100 mil). The P2104A probes are available in 1X, 2X, 5X, or 10X attenuation levels. Along with the 1X attenuation option, an AC-coupled option with DC blocking is also available. This enables flexible measurements in a wide range of voltages and capacitor sizes.
