Partnership between SPS electronic and dataTec: Everything is just right.

The company is based in Schwäbisch Hall. This is where SPS electronic has been developing and producing high-quality testing technology in the field of electrical safety for over 40 years. However, the company is at home in almost every market around the globe.

„We used to sell our products through sales representatives,“ explains Sales Manager Clemens Ketzer. „However, this became increasingly difficult due to the generational change.“ So they began to think about which sales concept would be best suited to leading the company into the future. It was a good thing that SPS electronic Managing Director Wolf-Henning Stoll and dataTec founder and long-standing CEO Hans Steiner had known each other personally for many years. „We always kept an eye on dataTec,“ says Wolf-Henning Stoll. „We knew each other because Mr. Steiner himself demonstrated PLC measuring devices at the company. And we have been a dataTec customer for over 30 years. We've also always been a good fit on a personal level – because of our shared values and visions, but also because of our Swabian origins.“

At a dinner together, they realized that - regardless of the business relationship – they simply like to have a beer together. „This interpersonal harmony ultimately led to our good cooperation.“ After all, this was the first time SPS electronic had handed over its sales department. „That's a huge vote of confidence.“

SPS electronic has now been distributing its products in Germany exclusively via dataTec for more than eight years. Clemens Ketzer: „The move was exactly right, dataTec is an excellent partner. Everything is just right: the large, highly qualified sales team, the portfolio, the back office, the order processing, the marketing... And on a personal level, it fits on all levels.“

He is fascinated by the visionary power of dataTec's management team. „Our joint business thrives on recognizing as early as possible what will be in demand in the future. The fact that dataTec is so consistent in this respect also helps us to exploit our potential.“

The bare figures also show this: Since the start of the partnership, SPS electronic's turnover has risen by around 50 percent on a long-term average to 1.5 million euros. „At its peak, the dataTec team even achieved a turnover of more than two million euros in 2018.“

However, the company cannot and does not want to rest on its laurels. „We are currently very actively preparing for the boom in electromobility and developing products for it.“ One of the most spectacular innovations is the high-end ST 4000 surge voltage tester, „the all-rounder for coils and windings“.

But of course, SPS electronic and dataTec customers don't just need measuring and testing technology for electric motors. Charging cables, infrastructure and control units also need to be operated safely and remain functional for a long time. The market needs reliable test equipment for this. And the associated services. SPS electronic operates a calibration laboratory and service center in Twist near the Dutch border. The former has even been DAkkS accredited for some time now - an accolade. This entitles SPS to offer accredited calibrations in accordance with DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025 – a competence that only very few laboratories can boast. Simply German quality.
