The Keysight P50xxB series combines precise vector network analysis with a compact form factor for PC-connected operation via Thunderbolt. It is suitable for research, development and production - from the characterization of passive components, connectors, cables and filters to amplifiers and mixers/frequency converters. Optional software functions (e.g. spectrum analysis, pulse RF, TDR) turn the VNA into a versatile RF measurement platform.

The VNA Keysight P5025B presented here is a 4-port model of the P502xB family with a frequency range from 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz. Compared to the 6-port devices (P5020B-P5024B up to 20 GHz), the P5025B combines higher maximum frequency with true multi-port functionality - ideal for wideband duplexers and multi-port filters, crosstalk analysis, active and passive front-end modules, antenna matching and mixer/converter tests. Compared to the 2-port variants (P5005B-P5008B), the 4-port design enables mixed-mode measurements (e.g. Sdd, Scc, Sdc, Scd) without an external switching matrix and significantly reduces the need for reconnection and recalibration. Within the 4-port series, the maximum frequency scales further via P5026B/P5027B/P5028B (32/44/53 GHz).

Technical highlights of the P50xxB series

  • Port options: 2-port (P500xB), 4-/6-port (P502xB); 2-/4-port up to 53 GHz, 6-port up to 20 GHz.
  • Frequency coverage depending on model: 9 kHz up to 4.5/6.5/9/14/20 GHz and 100 kHz up to 26.5/32/44/53 GHz.
  • System dynamic range: typically up to 150 dB in the lower GHz range (depending on model/frequency) for reliable measurements even on highly attenuating DUTs.
  • Maximum output power: up to +13 dBm (typical, up to 4.5 GHz); decreasing at higher frequencies - ideal for linear excitation and good SNR.
  • Very low trace noise: Magnitude typ. 0.0005 dB rms (with suitable IF bandwidth) for high-precision results.
  • Fine frequency resolution & accuracy: Resolution 1 Hz; frequency accuracy typ. in the ppm range.
  • Level accuracy: typ. up to ±0.2 dB (up to 15 GHz) for reproducible power and gain measurements.
  • Robust inputs: permissible damage level +27 dBm or ±35 V DC.
  • Connectivity & references: Thunderbolt 3/4 (USB4) to host PC, 10 MHz Ref-In/Out, additional USB-A ports for peripherals.
  • Multiport measurements: Connection of two base units with Y1701A interconnect cable kits.
  • Compact & lightweight: Streamline form factor; 4-port version with 3.5 mm test ports (up to 26.5 GHz) - ideal for laboratory, production and mobile applications.
  • Parallel tests (multi-site): up to two independent VNA instances per PC for higher throughput.
  • Expandable via software: Spectrum analysis (S97090xB), pulse RF (S97024xB/S97025xB), extended time domain analysis with TDR (S97011B).
