Discover our active simulators and emulators for realistic simulation of electrical and electronic signals. These devices enable the targeted generation of defined states and measured values and are ideal for diagnostics, troubleshooting, testing, and development.
Depending on the model, sensor values, resistances, voltages, frequencies, or other electrical signals can be simulated, for example. This allows control units and connected components to be reliably tested without requiring the corresponding original component.
Active simulators and emulators create controlled, reproducible test conditions and support efficient troubleshooting in workshops, development, test laboratories, and technical training.
Simulators model the behavior and characteristics of a system only abstractly or approximately (often without real hardware or exact timing), whereas an emulator replicates a target system as faithfully as possible—including the original hardware and software layers—down to the smallest detail.
The inverter is a central component of electric drive systems. It converts the DC voltage from the power supply into a multiphase AC voltage and uses it to control the electric drive. It is therefore important to test inverter hardware under defined and reproducible electrical load conditions as early as the development phase.
The Active Load Cabinet (ALC) is an active load system for high-voltage functional testing of inverters. It enables the test object to be subjected to an electrical load without the need to set up a complete real powertrain. This makes the ALC suitable for both development and validation tasks as well as for functional tests in quality assurance and production.
In R-L mode, the Active Load Cabinet operates as an adjustable resistive-inductive load. Resistance and inductance can be configured during operation, allowing different electrical load conditions to be set without modifying the test setup.
In four-quadrant operation, operating states can be tested in both the motor and generator modes. In addition, the ALC can be used as a single-phase current source, for example, to calibrate the test object’s internal current sensors or to test connectors. Depending on the application, options for emulating rotor position sensors are also available.
A key advantage of active load systems lies in their reproducible and flexibly adjustable test conditions. This allows inverter hardware to be tested even before the full integration of hardware, software, and the overall system is complete. Faults in the power electronics can thus be detected and investigated earlier in the development process. Motor and inverter development can begin simultaneously, saving both time and costs.
Through open communication interfaces, the Active Load Cabinet can be integrated into existing laboratory, test bench, and automation environments. This makes it suitable for both individual functional tests and automated, long-running validation tasks.
Active load systems for inverter testing are required wherever high-performance electric drives are developed, tested, or manufactured. Typical areas of application include the automotive industry and electric mobility, research and development, aerospace and defense, as well as industrial applications and robotics.
With the Active Load Cabinet, dataTec offers a high-performance solution for testing modern inverters and power electronics under defined electrical load conditions.
