The XJAccelerator v2 from XJTAG is a versatile, FPGA-based expansion module for XJTAG test systems. The module was developed to significantly speed up programming operations on electronic assemblies while expanding the test coverage of a unit under test (UUT) through additional interfaces and digital inputs/outputs.
At the heart of the XJAccelerator v2 is a reconfigurable Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA. When used in conjunction with XJFlash, it can handle the rapid programming of flash memory devices connected to one of the module’s three I/O ports. The data to be programmed is typically transferred to the device via the JTAG interface.
The XJAccelerator v2 is suitable, among other things, for programming NOR and NAND flash devices, as well as for applications with SPI, I²C, ICSP, or SWD interfaces. In addition, custom programming sequences can be implemented, provided that the required protocol can be implemented within the FPGA.
Unused signals from the three I/O ports can be utilized via the boundary-scan functions for additional digital I/O testing on the device under test. This allows the module to be used not only for Flash programming but also for the functional expansion of automated test and production systems.
Integration into existing XJTAG environments is flexible. The XJAccelerator v2 can either be connected to the JTAG controller via its own TAP or integrated into the DUT’s existing JTAG chain. The FPGA can be configured via both the JTAG port and the integrated configuration PROM. To reduce test times, the configuration status is checked at the start of each project and reprogrammed only when necessary.
