The channels of the NI ‑ 9403 digital I / O module can be configured as inputs or outputs for each channel during operation. Each channel has transient isolation between the I / O channels and the backplane. Reconfigurable I / O technology (CompactRIO only) allows the LabVIEW FPGA to be used to program the NI ‑ 9403 module and implement custom high-speed counters / timers, digital communication protocols, pulse generation, and other applications. The NI ‑ 9403 can only be used as a static (software controlled) digital I / O module in a CompactDAQ chassis. The modules cannot be used to route timing or trigger signals.
