The PicoScope 6000E series from Pico Technology combines extremely high bandwidths with large memory depth, flexible resolution and extensive analysis functions. Designed for applications where sub-nanosecond signals need to be reliably captured and analyzed, this series offers outstanding performance in both laboratory and field testing.
General features & applications
Typical features of the series include:
- Analog bandwidths up to approx. 1 GHz (for standard models), four or eight analog inputs plus optional digital channels (MSO pods).
- FlexRes ADCs with variable vertical resolution (e.g. 8- to 12-bit) to optimize noise performance and resolution depending on the signal.
- Very deep buffer memories ("deep memory"), which allow long signal sequences at high sampling rates.
- Powerful trigger functions, mask tests, serial decoding and extensive mathematical tools for signal analysis.
- Compatibility with Windows, macOS and Linux; SDKs for LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python etc.; free software updates.
Possible applications include in:
- High-energy physics / particle accelerators
- LIDAR / distance measurement
- VISAR (Velocity Interferometer System for Any Reflector)
- Spectroscopy
- Medical imaging
- Semiconductor testing, non-destructive testing
- Research & Development, test benches, quality assurance
PicoScope 6428E-D:
The PicoScope 6428E-D is a top-of-the-range model in the 6000E series that exceeds the standard variants in several aspects. It significantly extends the series in terms of bandwidth, sampling rate and performance at high resolution. For users who require maximum signal fidelity with very fast signals, this model offers decisive advantages.
Technical highlights
- Analog bandwidth of up to 3 GHz with 50 Ω inputs - significantly higher than many other models in the series.
- Real-time sampling rate of up to 10 GS/s for fast signal acquisition.
- Vertical FlexRes resolution: 8-, 10- or 12-bit, depending on application and signal level.
- Four channels with four adjustable input ranges: ±50 mV, ±100 mV, ±200 mV and ±500 mV.
- Large buffer memory of 4 GSample buffer memory - enables long recordings at a high sampling rate.
- Time resolution / single-shot pulse display with up to 100 ps (picosecond range) - ideal for detecting the smallest time or transit time deviations.
- Streaming mode: continuous data transfer directly to the PC, limited only by the available memory space.
- Supported by extensive software libraries and SDKs for Windows, macOS, Linux; examples/integrations with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python etc.
- Compatibility with 50 Ω input resistors - larger signals outside the specified ±500 mV can be recorded via external attenuators or specialized probes.
Differentiation from other models in the series
- Standard 6000E models typically offer bandwidths up to ~1 GHz and sampling rates up to ~5 GS/s; the 6428E-D doubles these values in many cases.
- The FlexRes resolution is retained, but the 6428E-D offers excellent signal quality even at the highest speeds.
- The model is designed for 50 Ω measurement environments, which optimizes impedance matching and RF signal routing; typical models with 1 MΩ inputs often have lower RF performance.
- The streaming mode and large buffer make the 6428E-D more suitable for continuous capture and system integration than many other models designed for comparatively short capture sequences.
