The PHU device family from GW Instek was designed for demanding test tasks in research, development and industrial production. Thanks to modern SiC power semiconductors, the power supply units achieve a power density of up to 15 kW in just 3 U height, with simultaneous multi-range capable output — voltage and current adapt automatically within a wide characteristic field. Typical applications range from photovoltaic and battery simulations to e-mobility tests and automotive electronics.

General features of the series:

  • Multi-range output: One device delivers different voltage/current combinations, so that a single power supply often replaces several conventional models.
  • Advanced Web Server (AWS): Full control via browser – no software­installation required.
  • Adaptive Parallel Connection (APC): Up to 10 units can be flexibly combined (max. 150 kW).
  • Broad choice of interfaces: LAN, USB (type A/B) and embedded industrial buses such as EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, Profinet and DeviceNet.
  • Safety and convenience functions: CV/CC priority, bleeder circuit, variable internal resistor simulation, definable slew rate (soft start/stop).

The PHU 1000-15-D model combines the highest voltage variant (1,000 V) with the maximum series output of 15 kW. This makes it ideal for:

  • Prüfung from 800 V to 1.000 V drive­inverters in electric vehicles
  • PV string simulation and MPP tracking tests at high DC voltages
  • Ageing and load tests of high-voltage battery­modules
  • Development and calibration of high-voltage DC charging systems
  • General laboratory and production tasks that require flexible high-voltage/low-current profiles
